The Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener FIELD KIT is the complete sharpening solution for both home and field use. The power sharpener provides a combination of flexible premium abrasive belts and precision sharpening guides to create the sharpest blades you've ever had with speed, ease and repeatability. The sharpening guides are purpose built for Kitchen Knives, Outdoor Knives (hunting knives, pocket knives, filet knives, etc.) as well as scissors* and serrated knives. This tool can also be used for many other sharpening tasks such as garden pruners, lawn mower blades, shovels and countless other bladed shop and garden tools. Power unit can be used in the field from a truck, car, RV or ATV with the use of a 12V power inverter (not included). The Retractable Honing Rod provides a compact and precise way to maintain your edge while out hunting, fishing, camping or anywhere you need a sharp edge. Nylon storage bag provides storage and portability for your sharpening supplies. This tool is assembled and quality tested in Ashland Oregon and has a 1 year warranty. Includes a detailed User's Guide and Instructional DVD.

*Sharpening scissors requires the use of the scissor guide. Freehand sharpening cannot create the consistent edge necessary for scissors to cut. The scissor guide is set at 65° based on the most common scissor edge angles. The guide is designed for common "household" size scissors, including culinary and shop shears. A 60° angled scissor guide is available on the optional 40° Outdoor Knife Guide. It is possible to regrind damaged scissor blades to 65° or 60° angle regardless of the original angle of the edge.

Warranty

A 1-Year Warranty covers defects due to workmanship and design, excluding abrasives. Warranty covers consumer use only, not industrial or commercial use.

NOTE: Using a 115V machine in a location with 230V power sources voids the warranty. For use outside North America, please visit our Where to Buy page to find a distributor in your country or region.

Great Sharpenter Review by Chuck In Fayetteville GA

I have longed for a good wet stone sharpener for years. Never could seem to find a good deal - so I would make do with files, grinding wheels and sharpening stones. Recently I went looking again and found the Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener. I have to say I was skeptical about a belt sander as a sharpener - although I have certainly thought about it (a real belt sander being way too big). Then I am reading about how the WSKTS puts a rounded edge on the blade. I thought that might not work so well. Little did I know. This sharpener is nothing short of amazing (just don't use the 80 grit belts on anything other than garden tools and axes). And, honestly, any rounding of the edge is minimal when the land is only an eighth of an inch or so. I started out sharpening my Grandfather's severely abused Kay-Bar from WWII and had it razor sharp in minutes. Went on to sharpen my Chicago Cutlery kitchen knifes. WOW! I am impressed with the performance of the WSKTS and, BTW, buy the WSKTS-KT Field Kit. For the extra money you get a carrying case, honing rod and extra belts. Well worth the money. Great Product, Horrible Looks. Review by Ray Chang

I bought this sharpener for quick edgework on my folders. The thing that struck me most right when I opened the box was how ugly it looks. Don't get me wrong, this is a great little belt sander, but it could definitely use some touching up. (no pun intended). This puts a razor edge on all of my knives in less than four minutes. I just wish that worksharp themselves made leather stropping belts. (Posted on 1/4/16)
Query about the field sharpener Review by JB

Sounds good, but if this is a field sharpener, shouldn't it run on 12v DC? If it did, I might buy one.

Work Sharp Reply: We get asked about a battery powered version from time to time. We found that ultimately, no one was willing to carry the equivalent of a power drill in their pack. Most folks use an inverter from their vehicle or a generator in camp. The Field Kit simply includes a retractable ceramic hone for field touch-ups and a carry case to keep things together while in transit. If you find yourself needing more than a ceramic hone while in field, we recommend our Guided Field Sharpener, a 5-stage diamond, ceramic and leather manual sharpener that easily fits in a a pack without weighing things down.
