Guided Sharpening System

The Guided Sharpening System (GSS) is Work Sharp’s complete benchtop sharpening and honing system. The GSS was created with both novice and master sharpeners in mind, and can be used to sharpen every knife you own. The innovative Pivot-Response System follows the curve of the blade while sharpening, putting a sharp edge along the entire length of the blade. The skill is built into the tool. No jigs. No clamps. No nonsense.

Use the GSS to put a perfect edge on your pocket, hunting, and kitchen knives – as well as serrations, fish hooks, and tools – while mastering your manual sharpening skills. Experienced sharpeners will appreciate the thought-out features that make this such a versatile and complete knife and tool sharpening system.

With the Guided Sharpening System, you have the choice of how you want to sharpen a knife, based on your skill level and the type of blade you want to sharpen. The Pivot-Response can be locked-out, creating a traditional sharpening surface for straight blades, or engaged to evenly sharpen curved blades – without changing the sharpening motion. If you are new to sharpening or haven’t had success with sharpening stones, activating the Pivot-Response will do the work for you. It puts the skill in the tool and makes manual sharpening easy.

    The Guided Sharpening System features:
  • 1.25" x 6” coarse (320 grit) and fine (600 grit) Diamond Sharpening Plates
  • 17° and 20° Angle Guides
  • Coarse and Fine Ceramic Hone with built-in Angle Guides
  • 3 sizes of ceramic rods to sharpen serrations
  • Pivot-Response technology
  • Removable diamond plate holder for sharpening tools

    Sharpens:
  • • Curved Blades
  • • Straight Blades
  • • Serrations
  • • Tools
  • • Hooks and Fine Points

One of the most challenging aspects of sharpening with flat stones is achieving a consistently sharp edge along the entire length of the blade. The proper angle must be maintained during the entire sharpening process. While straight blades require a simple push along the abrasive, curved blades must rotate along the profile while maintaining the proper sharpening angle. The technique is difficult and time consuming to master. Pivot-Response puts the skill into the Guided Sharpening System, allowing you to use the same, simple, straight-blade technique with curved blades. There’s no need to master a different technique for different blade profiles or use the complicated jigs and elaborate clamping systems found on other sharpeners. Pivot-Response can also be locked out, creating a traditional rigid sharpening stone surface.

Also available: The Guided Sharpening System Upgrade Kit. This Upgrade Kit extends the range of diamond plates by adding an Extra-Coarse 220 Girt for blade repair and coarse tool sharpening, an Extra-Fine 800 Grit for delicate sharpening tasks and edge refinement, plus a Leather Stropping plate with 0.5 micron honing compound and a 25° Stropping Angle Guide.

What's in the box:

  • Benchtop Sharpening Platform
  • Coarse Diamond Plate (320 Grit)
  • Grit Fine Diamond Plate (600 Grit)
  • 17° / 20° Angle Guides (2)
  • Ceramic Field Hone

This product gets the job done. It's fairly easy to use and compact. The only thing I don't like about it are the angle guides. Only after about 2 knife sharpenings, I had already rubbed off the coating. When rubbed off they can leave 2 streaks across the blade and wear the finish a little. (Posted on 9/21/15)

I have several knives, some 80 years old some 40 and some new ones. From a 1 3/4 blade to a 19" blade! The oldest knife I have is my uncles boy scout knife. I called the company and they told me it's 80 - 90 years old! I also have my boy scout knife which is 40 years old. I couldn't get a good edge on these knives using a 2 sided stone! I recently purchased a Gerber Bear Grylls ultimate pro survival knife which came with a sharpener built into the sheath and recommended the bear grylls sharpener to go with it. I could get a little bit of an edge on it but that's it and I was frustrated!
In my browser I typed world best field knife sharpener and workshop came up! Lightweight with course and fine diamond plates angles built in course and fine ceramic finish rod and finally a leather strop, for which I got .5 micron diamond paste every knife is razor sharp I have a cut to prove it! Even my filet knife which was expensive and dull for lack of knowledge is crazy sharp! The trick anyone selling knives use cutting paper actually woks! Even my hatchet and ax cut and split with ease! Wish I would have seen their newest portable sharpener first, but for $21.45 it's amazing! (Posted on 9/4/15)

This system has sharpened everything I have tried with it so far from a really flat ground paring knife to a substantial hunting knife and made them all razor sharp. It is a system anyone can benefit from and is easy to learn to use. I have tried a lot of knife sharpening systems in my life and while I have powered professional systems like both the Ken Onion model Workshop that I use for most of my knives and a model 3000 that I use for my chisels and flat blades in the shop this manual sharpener does an incredible job, without much if any mess and is small and portable to boot.
