Port Orford, Oregon has the distinction of being one of the only coastal towns on either side of the United States to be awarded exemption from traditional federal oversight when it comes to managing their ocean resources. When Work Sharp swung by to meet with Port Orford Sustainable Seafood Executive Director and fisherman Aaron Longton to deliver sharpeners for their processing stations, Longton wove a story of a community, economy, and ecology that was brought together and turned around through an intentional sustainability initiative.
