This is one of the best sharpeners you can get but the diamond grit runs out slightly fast and is hard to sharpen knives like a stk c

First thing people need to do after realizing how great this is, is to buy a bigger sharpener because using this for every blade you own every day will wear it out.. It’s just diamond plates, use it to *touch up* alreadysharp tools that justneed the edge dressed or a slight reshape and you’ll be fine. That said…
When you do wear the original plates down, don’t wait ’til they’re totally dead,, get the new plates and keep the old ones for even finer work as now,, you have four different grit plates, right!?? Right.
As for the strop, sure, you use it some and it will flatten out. The fix? Take some reasonably fine (not Emory cloth fine) sand paper and scuff up the leather then re-dress it with some fresh stroping compound. Just rub on a little green compound from a stick you get at home depot. Good as new. It’s replaceable but, it’d a pain and there’s a lot more life to the strop than people realize.
Also, the plates fill up with metal dust, you have to wash/scrubbing em, wipe ’em with a cloth/paper towel once in a while to clear the grit out. 🙂 And as for the ceramic, you can also wash that, as well. I’ve taken my sharpener to the sink, grabbed a scotchbrite pad and scrubbed the plates, strop and ceramic rod(s) until they were actually clean and the difference is great. Just take the instructions out of the middle (and whatever else you put in there) and let the strop dry completely before puting anymore compound onit.
I’ve had my field sharpener for years and got tons of use from it. Now, it’s finally time for new plates. My strop is still fine. You’re only taking the really fine burr off and polishing a few strokes, unless you do something to hurt it or don’t know how to care for it, it should last a looong time. Refresh the strop, scrub the ceramic rod and clean our the plates and you’ll be surprised how much life you’ll get out of it. 😀

I love this item, it seems people do not understand thisnis a field sharpener and should not be your main sharpener. It does exactly what it is supposed to do. If you have a collection of knives then buy a bigger sharpener and use this for touch ups and the FIELD.
