I’ve used mine for a similar purposes Roger. I was so enamored with how sharp I can get things that I resharpened pretty much every night I owned and in some cases several times over. Still the fine plate seem to drastically lose its effectiveness fairly quickly and the ceramic Rod is very similar. The coursest plate is fine but that’s only because used it much less. I bought the work Sharp/benchmade field sharpener. I would love fuel replacement find great plates as well as the ceramic rod. Also, should I be adding abrasive compound to the strop?

The other comments concerning plates wearing out too fast: Do not use only the fine when sharpening any knife for the first time. You must profile the edge with the course first. Or you’ll wear out the fine quickly.
Once you have fully profiled, sharpened, honed and stropped a knife on this, you can quickly touch it up or resharpen on only the fine diamond, ceramic rod or leather strop. In fact, only use this sharpener in the future for best results and you’ll be very pleased (and have no hair left on your arms.)
Files, sandpaper, grinding wheels, diamond sharpening plates, etc all wear out with use. They’ll wear much faster if improperly used and abused.
This is a great for sharpening and maintaining the few knifes you regularly carry & use.
It is not designed to sharpen every knife in your drawer or collection. You’ll wear it out if you try, then you’ll cry.
