Sporting Chef and Work Sharp Outdoor Pro Staffer Scott Leysath weighs in on typical kitchen knives like Chef's, Serrated, Paring, Boning, and more to discuss the right (and wrong) times to use each of these styles in the kitchen.
Chef's Knife - The most favored tool by professional chefs. Typically an 8-10 in knife will do just about anything in the kitchen.
Serrated Knife - Makes slicing bread easy without ruining the crust or shape. Use a serrated blade in a sawing motion. This knife is a go-to when folks don't know how to sharpen their smooth edge blades and want to cut easily through veggies and fruits. Get sharp so you can use the right tools for the right jobs.
Paring Knife - Perfect to cut up smaller fruits and veggies, mince herbs and create garnish.
Boning Blade - A straight forward name! Used to separate meat from bone, remove fat from protein, and process fish.
